Parody of The RavenSince "The Raven" has old and weird words, I have written it with
all the words transitioned to modern language.
It was dark and dreary, and I was tired and weary
from cleaning the toilets the day before.
When someone came tapping, a slight rapping,
tapping gently on my front door.
Who could it be? Let's look and see!
I thought and touched the door.
Surely it is just a visitor,
a visitor, nothing more.
Ah, I remember a maiden of the name Lenore,
who bent down and scrubbed the floor
whilst I played XBox and said nothing more.
It might be she who is at the door.
"Lenore," I said, "your forgiveness I implore,"
for I sitting down and doing nothing more
whilst you kneeled down and scrubbed the floor.
With that I flung open the door.
Darkness, and nothing more.
I stopped, then drooped, and closed the door.
Then I heard a tapping louder than before.
But from the door I heard nothing more;
the window was tapped, not the door.
This mystery, I thought, shall be explored,
it's just the win
You Were Not An Aquarium BoySea-glass became your bones,
brine your blood, and seashells
melded into your skin.
You were not quite an ocean
when you said "This is your sign to love me."
My body was like a building;
tall, cold, almost unbreakable.
I was metallic and sharp,
towering over your waters.
I remember taking your hand in mine,
conch and coral shells scrubbing
my skyscraper wrists, and laughing
about how one day you would
submerge every last bit of me.
Your lips, riddled with argonauts,
found my cheek and I cringed
at the coarseness.
You asked if they bothered me
and I finally told you "I
think I love you."
Red Riding HoodI want to believe people so badly when they say they won’t bite
that I contemplate climbing into their smiling jaws
thinking that it might be better to be split in two than left hanging.
But always, I draw my red hood and flit back into the forest
running in the shadows of pathways, never stepping into clearings
because I’ve spent my whole life in the wilderness
and I still can’t tell the wolves from the woodsmen.
